The End Is Near

It feels as though the end is near doesn't it? At least, the times we live in and the overall day to day experience throughout the world makes a person consider that we may be witnessing an end to an era. We aren't at Cyberpunk living just yet. We are on the threshold awaiting a catastrophe that will push us into the realm of high tech, low life. But we haven't entered into that world, not yet.

When we do, and I believe that inevitably we will enter into a time that will see human minds merged with machines via cybernetic implants, when we get that far will there even be a chance at going back? People cry out for a return to normalcy but fail to define what normal is. Normal for someone living in 1950 is quite different from the normal of a person living in the year 2022.

I hate the violence that has engulfed our cities here in the USA. I've given it thought and there are many reasons to consider regarding the cause but I do believe there is meaning behind it and that meaning is bizarre and perhaps a bit difficult to accept. Civilization is evolving. Sometimes their death is what evolves them. Sometimes its war or plague. We are witnessing the evolution of human civilization and the outcome is either going to be something beautiful or grotesque. What ever its final form, I believe we can say this, it certainly will not be recognizable to anyone living 50, 40, 30, perhaps 20... dare I even say 10 years ago? The fewer years you have to go back to make it unrecognizable indicates just how far we are into the process of evolutionary change. The younger generation isn't able to see it, they have less frame of reference than older members of society so they are in some ways inoculated against its harsh effects.

But it is here and it is kicking down the door of our normalcy.
